This year, the Workum internship program selected 13 outstanding college students. This year's intern class will spend the summer experiencing real world work experience, understanding more about our Jewish community, and making great strides in their organizations.

The Workum Fund Internship places college students at Jewish organizations across Cincinnati. The program comes together on Wednesdays for a seminar, where each intern presents about the organizations for which they work and the work they are doing over the summer.

We are proud to introduce the following interns for the 2018 summer!

 

CAROLINE ABEL (JVS Career Services)

A 1st Year Marketing Major and Communication Technology Minor at Ohio State University, Caroline is interested in working in the Marketing field after graduation. 
 
While attending Wyoming High School, Caroline participated in Varsity Swim Team, Varsity Cheerleading Squad, was Founder of the Jewish Culture Club and Project Lead, and graduated from Kulanu. While in college, Caroline has stayed involved in Hillel and Jewish Learning Fellowship.  
 
Caroline is eager to meet everyone and get started at JVS Career Services. She looks forward to learning more about the company and the world of business! 

 

SIENA GREENWELL (American Jewish Archives)

A rising Sophomore, at the George Washington University, Siena does not have a declared major yet, but is interested in teaching English as a second language and possibly pursuing law school.

While attending the School for Creative and Performing Arts, Siena participated in the Chamber/symphony orchestra, pit orchestra, chamber music groups and Ohio All-State Orchestra. She is involved with the George Washington University's Hillel and attended the 2018 AIPAC Policy Conference.

Siena is excited to work with the American Jewish Archives this summer and has shared "it will be incredible to work with an organization doing so much to document and preserve the history of Jews in America, a mission that is more important now than ever."

 

EMILY GLAZER (Jewish Family Services)

A rising Junior at the University of Cincinnati (UC) majoring in Social Work with a Minor in Sociology, Emily has expressed her interest to spend some time in Israel before returning come back to Cincinnati - or wherever life takes her by then! She would like to work as a social worker in either children and family services or serving the geriatric population.

A Walnut Hills High School graduate and participant in College Credit Plus at University of Cincinnati (2016-2017), Emily was actively engaged in the Chabad Teen Network (CTeen) where she served as an International Leader for 2 years, Jewish Culture Club, The Chatterbox (school paper), CTeen Connection (Blog and magazine for her youth group). 

She is a member at Adath Israel, Active at Chabad, CTeen, Chabad on Campus (Board Member), and Hillel. Being Jewish has always been important to Emily, but after spending this past summer on an inspiring trip to Poland and Israel through CTeen Heritage Quest, it made her realize the importance to keep the spirit of Judaism alive and growing.

Emily is excited to be interning at Jewish Family Services this summer, and working with the Holocaust survivors.  "Interning at JFS means I will be able to learn more about the Holocaust, teach others about what I will learn, and by working within the Jewish community, I am helping to ensure a Jewish future. Being an intern at JFS means that the spirit of the Jewish people will stay alive from generation to generation." 

 

 

FRANCINE "Franny" LEVY (Jewish Foundation)

A Franklin & Marshall College Class of 2021 English Major and Anthropology Minor with Interest in Law school or an English graduate program. 
 
A dancer since age 2 at the Studio for Dance, Franny trained in ballet, tap, jazz, clogging, and modern. She danced, sang, and choreographed her way through shows throughout her Sycamore High School tenure which included performing with the Cincinnati Pops, and traveling with the Sycamore Community Summer Singers - a choir that performed in

France and Italy.  Franny was a member of the National Honor Society and Global Language National Honor Society.

Franny had the opportunity to visit and bond with Israel with BBYO Passport for three weeks and is active in Franklin & Marshall College's Hillel, including being a member of the social planning committee.
 
Franny is extremely excited to be an intern with the Jewish Foundation this summer. "I am grateful for this opportunity to gain incredible work experience and learn from fellow employees. The Foundation provided me with the opportunity to travel to Israel through Cincy Journeys, and

I am looking forward to giving back and helping others in the Cincinnati community."

 

 

SPENCER MANDELL (Camp Livingston)

A University of Cincinnati, third year student with a dual major in Judaic Studies and Communication, Spencer has plans to continue his education by attending the Hebrew Union College with the goal of becoming a Rabbi. 
 
Spencer attended Sycamore High School and Grand River Academy.  He swam for two years on the Sycamore High School swim team, and played varsity baseball at Grand River Academy. Music is Spencer's passion. He plays guitar, bass and drums which he admits added greatly enhanced his high school experience.  
 
While at Grand River Academy, Spencer confides he was isolated from anything Jewish because it was a boarding school. However, during his freshman and sophomore years at Sycamore he was involved with NFTY and BBYO.  While in college he has been
working at Northern Hills Synagogue, as the music teacher, and a religious school teacher and has worked since 2015 at Camp Livingston.
 
Says Spencer, "Part of my role at camp last year was leading services and inspiring Judaism.  I am beyond excited to be responsible for Communications at Camp Livingston! This internship is an incredible opportunity and a huge milestone in my career. Being able to rise through the ranks at camp, (I started as kitchen help), I have lived a true underdog story. Being an intern for the 'Best Place on Earth' is a dream come true, and reaffirms for me the value of hard work, a positive attitude, and the importance of a smile. I am so excited for this summer and can't wait to get started!"

 

 

JULIA MATTIS (Federation Marketing)

An Ohio State University rising Senior, Julia is majoring in Fine Arts with a focus in Photography.  Post-graduation, Julia will pursue a career where she can utilize her photography skills and grow personally and professionally.
 
A graduate of Sycamore High School, Julia participated in Cross Country, basketball, track and field, and Fashion for the Cure.
 
Julia's Jewish Community Involvement during High School and College includes; Kulanu graduate, Camp Livingston Camp Counselor, and Building Leaders Today Hillel Fellow.
 
Julia shares "I am grateful for the opportunity to intern at a
place where I will be challenged to use my creative problem-solving skills in a collaborative environment. I am excited to learn from others and improve my ability to share a story through digital media."  

 

 

BAILEY OGAN (Federation P&A) 

As a student of Operations Management at the University of Cincinnati, Bailey would either like to get a Masters in Supply Chain Management, or work within the Jewish community somehow incorporating logistics and operations management into his career. 
  
Bailey is a Solon High School graduate.  He played varsity Soccer and BBYO Basketball for Sampson AZA.  He is a past engagement intern for Hillel International and current Ruderman Inclusion Ambassador and David Project Intern. As a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi (Jewish Fraternity), Bailey served as the Past New Member Educator and 2 term Recruitment Chair.  
  
"I am so thrilled to be able to work for the Jewish community that

has done so much for me. Working in the Planning and allocation department will help hone and improve skills I need to effectively apply myself to the job force later in life in the field of operations management, and I couldn't be more excited."

 

EVA ROSENTHAL (Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Cincinnati)

A Denison University Class of 2019 Religion Major, Eva plans to attend graduate school and attain a Master's in Divinity.
 
While attending Walnut Hills High School, Eva participated in contemporary dance and choir.
 
Eva currently serves as president of the Denison Hillel chapter.
 

"I am so looking forward to interning with Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Cincinnati. Genealogy is a personal interest that I feel lucky to be working in. I hope to learn useful online skills as well."

 

 

RACHEL ROTHSTEIN (Jewish Federation- YAD & CYJL)

A Rising Ohio State University (OSU) Junior studying Strategic Communication, Rachel would like to work in public relations or marketing. 
 
A Mason High School graduate, Rachel was Student
Ambassador in her sophomore year; active in the SIBS (Student Mentor) Program; and Comets in Action (a program where students took special needs kids on outings after school once a month).
 
Rachel attended Camp Livingston for 10 years, 2 of which she was a counselor. She also attended the Cornerstone Leadership
Seminar and was a Cornerstone Fellow for Livingston last
summer. She is currently in Alpha Epsilon Phi, and frequently attends events at Hillel and Chabad at OSU.
 

"I am thrilled to be interning for The Jewish Federation-Young Adult Division (YAD) & Creating Your Jewish Legacy (CYJL). I think this a unique opportunity that I cannot wait to be a part of. I hope to learn new skills I can take with me throughout the rest of my time at Ohio State as well as in my future career. I am also excited to continue to be a part of the Jewish community."

 

 

BEN RUSKIN (JCRC)

Presently attending the Ohio State University, Ben's plans to hopefully work for a production company based in LA or New York after graduation.
 
A Sycamore High School graduate, Ben has accumulated four years of Journalism (with video, newspaper, and website), is a member of Unified for Uganda and a Model UN member and competitor.
 
Ben participated in BBYO Jewish youth group during high school and he has taught a Sunday School class at Wise Temple for Underclassmen.
 

"I am looking forward to working with the JCRC for several reasons. I admire their mission and advocacy for the Jewish people in our community and I hope to contribute to the ever-growing task of keeping the Jewish people of our city safe and secure."

 

 

CODY SARACO-POLNER (JCC Marketing)

A current University of Cincinnati Sophomore majoring in Sports Administration with Minors in Women's Gender and Sexuality Studies and Marketing.  Cody aspires towards a career in Marketing, Sponsorship, or Philanthropic work in sports.
 
A graduate of Montclair High School, Montclair, NJ, Cody was Bowling team captain his senior year, played Baseball, and was a member of National Honor Society.  He is Chef Intern at Hillel on UC's campus and an active member of Alpha Epsilon Pi.
 

"I am very excited to be working with the Mayerson JCC, especially in the field of marketing, and am looking forward to the learning I will do throughout this internship."

 

 

ASHLEY SCHLAEGER (Adath Israel)

Ashley is a rising Sophomore at Ohio State University Fisher College of Business majoring in Marketing and Minoring in Leadership Studies with interest in a Marketing Management career.
 
While attending Mason High School, Ashley was the National Honor Society Talent Show Chair, the Comet Savings & Loan Marketing Manager and an active participant of SIBS (Students Involving and Befriending Students), and NFTY Ohio Valley Programming Vice President. She is presently a Campus Engagement Intern at Ohio State Hillel.
 

As an intern with Adath, Ashley is excited to learn marketing skills in a professional atmosphere while also relating to the Jewish Community.

MONICA VALENTINI (Rockdale Temple)

A rising Senior at Ohio State University, Monica is studying Marketing. Her personal independence and happiness is a priority after graduation.  Or, in Monica's own words, "getting a job I love and not having to live with my mom." 
 
Monica was in DECA while attending Indian Hill High School and she attended URJ Goldman Union Camp Institute since third grade!
