More than 50 college students from the Cincinnati Jewish community are getting career experience through paid summer internships both in Cincinnati and in Israel. While building their resumes, they’re also making an impact on Jewish Cincinnati. Careers Cincinnati helps students network with industry leaders in our community, and connects them with paid internship opportunities in their fields. The Onward Israel internship program provides a second level of professional experience for Jewish college students; interns spend eight weeks working in their respective fields in Tel Aviv, Israel. The Workum Internship Program provides eight-week-long internships in Cincinnati’s Jewish nonprofit agencies.

This is a unique offering for Jewish college students in the United States. Cincinnati is one of the only cities to offer three internship programs and was one of the first to develop an internship abroad program in Israel. All three internship opportunities help build students’ resumes, provide professional experience, and teach job search skills as they prepare to enter the workforce. The programs were convened by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, with Cincinnati 2020 in mind, to develop career and networking opportunities to engage the next generation.

What are your hopes for your internship experience? I am looking forward to cultivating bonds between the Jewish and African American communities in Cincinnati and completing projects that will enhance the museum experience at the Freedom Center.

What are your hopes for your internship experience? As someone who loves Cincinnati, and wants to make a difference of some kind in the city, I am gaining new perspective about how things work in the region (in terms of economic development projects, local political issues, etc.), both in Ohio and Kentucky.
